Overview

Imagine a world where giant, oddly shaped trees stretch from roots to crown, covered in soft moss. Nearby lies an emerald lake that seems to breathe clouds of toxic gas and shimmer with blue flames like a mythical dragon.

This magical place truly exists — it’s the captivating island of Java, which we invite you to explore on our two-day tour.

You’ll dive into the fantastic atmosphere of Jawatan Benculuk Forest, where winding paths transport you into a world reminiscent of The Lord of the Rings.

Greeting the sunrise at Mount Ijen will be one of the most breathtaking moments of your journey. This unique volcano hides a sulfur lake in its crater, and at night its shores glow with an otherworldly blue fire, like liquid lava. The shadowy trees clinging to the rocky slopes look like sea monsters emerging from the mist.

Day 1

Early in the morning, around 8:00 AM, a driver from the transport company will pick you up from your hotel or villa. You will travel in a comfortable vehicle across the western part of Bali toward the ferry terminal at Gilimanuk Port. The drive to the port takes about 4 hours and passes through some of Bali’s most scenic areas — beaches, rice fields, and the West Bali National Park. The ferry crossing to Banyuwangi Port in East Java takes approximately 1 hour. We’ll stop for lunch at a local restaurant in the village of Ketapang before continuing our journey to the Ijen Volcano area.

At 3:00 PM, we’ll arrive at the first stop of our trip — the magical Jawatan Benculuk forest. This forest is famous for its enormous tamarind trees of whimsical shapes, completely covered with thick green moss. You’ll have about an hour to feel like a hobbit from The Lord of the Rings and take plenty of stunning photos in this enchanting place.

At 4:00 PM, we’ll continue our journey. According to the new regulations for visiting the Ijen volcano, all tourists are required to check their blood pressure and obtain a medical clearance. Therefore, we’ll make a short stop at a local clinic on the way to the hotel. This will not take long, and by around 5:00 PM, we’ll arrive at the hotel. After check-in, you can relax and rest before the night hike.

Day 2

At around 00:30–1:00 AM, we’ll depart from the hotel toward the slope of the active Ijen volcano, entering a truly unique natural world — one of the few remaining areas in Java where giant ferns and other rare plants still thrive.

Before the hike, we’ll meet our professional English-speaking guide, who will provide respirator masks and flashlights. The ascent will start around 2:00 AM. After approximately 1.5 hours of hiking, we’ll reach the viewpoint at the crater rim.

Inside the crater lies the world’s largest sulfur deposit, where mining is carried out continuously. You’ll see miners carrying 80-kg baskets of sulfur up from the crater — a truly impressive sight.

We’ll witness the sunrise at an altitude of 2,386 meters above sea level. From here, you’ll enjoy a breathtaking view of volcanic ridges and lush green forests stretching to the horizon. The squat trees on the slopes, resembling fantastic sea creatures, and the emerald-green acidic lake surrounded by clouds of sulfur make this place look otherworldly. Around 6:00 AM, we’ll begin our descent back to the foot of the volcano.

On the way back to the hotel, we’ll make a stop at another stunning location — the Jagir Waterfalls, a cascade of three waterfalls. Locals call them the “Waterfalls of Brothers and Sisters” or “The Angels’ Falls” because the water is so pure it’s said to be fit for the gods themselves. Here, you can take a refreshing dip in the cool mountain river and capture unforgettable photos under the powerful, invigorating streams.

By around 11:00 AM, we’ll return to the hotel for breakfast. After that, you’ll pack your belongings and rest a bit before heading back to Bali. Including the ferry crossing, the return trip will take approximately 5–6 hours. The exact arrival time at your hotel or villa will depend on its location and current road conditions.
