White Sand Beach, also known as Virgin Beach, is located in the east of Bali between the villages of Bugbug and Perasi, not far from Candidasa. This beach is famous for its white sand, which is rare for the eastern coast of the island. It was discovered by Australian travelers in the 1970s and for a long time remained a secret spot known only to locals.

The beach is located in a small secluded bay and has a crescent shape with a shoreline of about 700 meters. Surrounded by hills and tropical greenery, it looks very picturesque. The sand here is light yellow with volcanic specks, while the water shimmers with shades of blue and turquoise. High waves are rare, making the beach suitable for swimming and snorkeling.

Infrastructure

The beach has warungs (small cafés) offering local and European cuisine. There are parking facilities, showers, and toilets. Sunbeds and umbrellas can be rented for a small fee or used for free with a food order at the cafés. Fishing boats are located on the right side of the beach, while the left side is more developed for leisure.

Things to do on the beach

Sunbathing

Sunbeds and umbrellas are available on the beach, mostly on the left side of the shore. You can also sunbathe on the sand, especially on the quieter right side.

Swimming and snorkeling

The best swimming area is on the left side of the beach, with a gentle sandy entrance into the water. For snorkeling, the right side is better, where you can see corals, starfish, tropical fish, and even turtles. Snorkeling equipment rental costs around 35,000–40,000 IDR.

Massage

Local residents offer relaxing massages right on the beach. Prices range from 40,000 to 100,000 IDR, though the quality depends on the individual therapist.

Boat trips and fishing

Local boatmen organize trips to the small island of Pulau Kuan as well as fishing tours. Prices range from 250,000 to 350,000 IDR, with conditions negotiated individually.

Dining at warungs

The cafés on the beach serve fresh fish, seafood, nasi goreng, pasta, and pizza. Prices range from 40,000 to 120,000 IDR. Be sure to try a coconut or freshly squeezed juice.

Exploring the surroundings

Near the beach, you can visit Pura Bale Agung Temple and climb Bukit Asah Hill, where scenic viewpoints offer breathtaking views of the ocean and surroundings.

Useful tips

• Entrance and parking: both the beach entrance and parking cost 10,000 IDR.

• Equipment: wear comfortable shoes for walking around the area, as the paths can be uneven.

• Comfortable stay: if you plan to spend the whole day at the beach, it’s better to settle on the left side, where more facilities are available.

• Natural features: be careful during high tide, as the rocky seabed can be slippery.

Virgin Beach is an ideal place for those seeking seclusion, natural beauty, and a peaceful holiday.
