Tegenungan Waterfall is one of the most popular and easily accessible natural attractions in Bali. Its location near major tourist routes makes it appealing to most travelers. Unlike many other waterfalls on the island, the way to Tegenungan doesn’t take much time or require significant effort.

The waterfall is loved not only for its beauty and proximity to the southern resorts but also for the atmosphere of a hidden, almost magical place. Its nickname, “Hidden Waterfall”, highlights its secluded setting. Despite its popularity, Tegenungan still feels tucked away, surrounded by jungle and winding paths that lead through rice fields. Even when driving nearby, it can be easily missed if you don’t know it’s there.

Adding to the charm is the neighboring Blangsinga Waterfall, located just 300 meters upstream. While often confused, they are two separate waterfalls, each with its own unique features worth exploring.

What makes Tegenungan special:

  • Sacred bathing pools: At the base of the waterfall, there is a small temple with pools filled with water believed to be blessed by the gods. Locals use them for ritual purification.
  • Romantic details: A bamboo bridge, ruins of an abandoned hotel, stone pyramids, and even a bamboo canoe in a Caribbean pirate style add atmosphere and create perfect photo spots.
  • Natural features: The waterfall stands about 20 meters high. Water cascades into a natural pool, which looks especially dramatic during the rainy season. Although the water turns muddy, the sheer power of the falls is impressive.
  • Mystical shapes: Many visitors see faces or figures in the rock formations and waterfall lines, fueling the site’s mystical allure.

Activities:

  • Swimming in the pool at the base of the falls and exploring a nearby small cave are perfect ways to cool down on a hot day.
  • Walking along jungle paths surrounded by lush greenery offers a peaceful nature experience.
  • Photography: every corner here feels like it was made for unforgettable shots.

Tegenungan Waterfall is a perfect spot to experience Bali’s natural beauty. It is located just 20–30 minutes by car from Ubud or the southern resort areas. Visiting in the morning is especially recommended to avoid the crowds.
