If you dare to climb at night an active yet sleeping volcano Batur, standing 1717 meters high, you’ll be rewarded at dawn with breathtaking views of one of the largest calderas in Southeast Asia, a volcanic lake, and, in clear weather, the impressive Mount Rinjani on the neighboring island of Lombok.

It can be quite chilly at the top early in the morning, so make sure to bring a jacket or a hoodie. Comfortable footwear is highly recommended, as the ascent will take at least two hours. While you enjoy the sunrise, your guide will prepare breakfast for you.

Balinese people have long believed that the gods dwell atop mountains, so they make offerings before stepping onto sacred ground. It is said that here, your prayers and wishes are more likely to be heard by the gods.
