Overview

Agung is one of Indonesia’s active volcanoes and the highest point on Bali, rising 3,142 meters above sea level. Locals believe that the gods reside at its summit and call it the “Great Mountain.” There are many legends about Agung — all of them say that the volcano protects Bali from evil forces and serves as the spiritual center of the island.

Pilgrims and travelers have always sought to conquer it. Climbing Mount Agung is a serious challenge, even for those in excellent physical condition. The ascent follows a steep, rocky slope with an incline of about 45 degrees. The climb takes 4–6 hours, and the descent requires roughly the same amount of time. Throughout the journey, your knees will endure significant strain.

But the sunrise at the top of the “Great Mountain” is worth every step. Above the clouds — where the gods dwell — you’ll witness the sun awakening and touching the earth with its first rays. These are truly magical moments!

We offer two program options:

  • Ascent (long route) — 6.5–7.5 hours to the summit and the same on the descent.
  • Ascent with an overnight stay at the 2,000 m camp — 3.5–4.5 hours to the camp, a night in the mountains, 2–3 hours to the summit, and 5–6 hours on the descent.

Important information

  • Booking with full prepayment
  • Height of the volcano: 3142 meters
  • One guide accompanies two to three people
  • The average time for ascent and descent is about 14–16 hours
  • The route length to the crater is 14.5 km
  • Climbing Mount Agung is a serious physical challenge that requires good preparation.
  • People with joint or heart conditions are prohibited from climbing.
  • The guides who will assist you during the ascent may not speak English and might not have professional guiding skills. Therefore, the safety of the climb largely depends on your physical condition and readiness for the ascent.
  • There are no places to buy mineral water or snacks on the slopes of the volcano, so it’s best to prepare them in advance

Program: Ascent (long route)
Evening transfer

At the scheduled meeting time, a driver will arrive at your hotel or villa. Please wait at the hotel reception or at the entrance to your villa. Once all participants have gathered, the transfer will depart for the foot of the volcano. Upon arrival at the parking area, your guide will meet you and provide flashlights for the hike.

23:00 Climbing the volcano

The ascent begins at 11:00 p.m. from Pura Pengubengan Besakih. The route will take you to an altitude of 3,142 meters above sea level. The climb to the summit takes approximately 6.5 to 7.5 hours. The first rest stop will be after about 45 minutes of hiking. The number of subsequent stops depends on the physical condition of the participants. During the first two hours, you will cover two-thirds of the route. The remaining third is the most challenging part: you will ascend a steep, slippery rocky slope at an angle of about 60 degrees, with an elevation gain of 1,900 meters.

At sunrise, you will reach the summit of the volcano. You’ll have about one hour to enjoy the breathtaking views and take photos. Afterward, you’ll begin your descent back to the base of the volcano, which will also take about 6.5 to 7.5 hours. The driver will be waiting for you at the parking area.

Return transfer

Once all guests have gathered, you will depart for your hotel. The arrival time depends on road traffic and the distance to your accommodation.

Было очень сложно карабкаться на вверх, но еще сложнее спускаться, потому что нагрузка на колени колоссальная, но оно того стоило!))
