Keramas Beach (Pantai Keramas) is located in southeast Bali, in Gianyar Regency near Sanur, in the Sukawati area. It is one of the island’s top surfing spots, thanks to its powerful waves and convenient facilities, which include a bar, restaurant, beach club, and several hotels. The coastline is framed by rice fields and traditional rural landscapes.
Name: The beach takes its name from the nearby village. Originally, it was called Kuramas, meaning “golden turtle.” Sea turtles once laid their eggs here, but they are no longer found on this shore.
Appearance: Keramas is covered with black volcanic sand that shimmers under the sun like scattered stardust. Large boulders and soft green seaweed fields emerge during low tide. Ducks can often be seen wandering along the coast, while fresh fruit is sold straight from nearby trees.
Tranquility and rituals: Keramas remains relatively untouched by mass tourism, making it an ideal place for solitude, meditation, and observing traditional Balinese ceremonies such as Melasti or cremations.
