Padang Padang Beach

Padang Padang Beach

Padang Padang Beach, also known as Pantai Labuan Sait, is located in the southwest of the Bukit Peninsula, in the Pecatu area, near the village of Ungasan. It is 28 kilometers from Denpasar. The beach is hidden among limestone rocks and is accessed through a cave or a narrow staircase with 50 steps.
• Size and appearance: The small beach, about 100 meters long, resembles a cozy bay surrounded by white cliffs. White coarse-textured sand, turquoise water and black boulders with green moss create an incredibly picturesque landscape.

• Bottom and waves: The rocky bottom and gentle entrance to the water make the place safe for swimming. Surfers ride far from the shore, where the waves reach the desired height.

• Best time to visit: Sunsets and sunrises here are especially beautiful when the rocks and water shimmer in hues of gold and red.

History and popularity

The beach was almost unknown until the 1990s, when it was discovered by photographers and filmmakers. Among the highlights:

• Filming of the Michael Learns To Rock video in 1996.

• Episodes of the film “In God's Hands” (1998).

• Worldwide fame after the release of the film “Eat, Pray, Love” with Julia Roberts in 2010.

Since then, Padang Padang has become a place of pilgrimage not only for cinema fans, but also for professional surfers.

Surfing on the beach

Padang Padang is an iconic surfing spot.

• Waves: Local waves known as the "Bali Pipeline" create a cylinder effect that is ideal for riding. This complex element is only available to professionals.

• Competitions: Every year since 2004, the prestigious Rip Curl Padang Padang Championship is held here in July-August.

Infrastructure and amenities

• At the top of the cliff there are parking lots, souvenir shops and grocery stores.

• There are showers and toilets on the beach, umbrellas and surfboards for rent.

• You can grab a bite to eat or enjoy a cocktail at local cafes. However, the choice of food is limited, and many tourists prefer to bring their own food.

• Fresh coconuts, smoked fish and local delicacies are sold right on the beach.

Attractions and atmosphere

• Labuan Sait Temple: Located next to the cave, purification ceremonies (Melasti) are held here before the Balinese New Year.

• Monkeys: Lots of small monkeys run around the area adding to the fun of the tourists.

• Natural Beauty: White cliffs, caves and ocean views create a romantic atmosphere that makes the beach popular for photo shoots and wedding ceremonies.
Padang Padang is a place where natural beauty, culture and outdoor activities come together. This beach is perfect for both romantics and surfers looking for the perfect waves.
